After Tim Cook, Phil Schiller introduced a new 13-inch MacBook Pro; 20% thinner than its predecessor, with a thickness of only 19 mm and a weight of 1.6 kg. It is equipped with 2 MagSafe connectors, two Thunderbolt ports, an SD card reader, HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports, and most importantly - Retina display! It has four times the resolution (2560x1600 pixels), better contrast and 75% less glare. The facetime camera supports 720p video. It can be equipped with up to a 768GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, a Core i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge processor, HD 4000 graphics and, according to Schiller, the battery lasts up to 7 hours. He also introduced the new eighth generation iMac. It's only 5 mm thin at the edges and 85% thinner than its predecessor. It is made of two pieces that are connected with special welding technology. The diagonal remains 21.5 and 27 inches with resolution of 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 pixels; also with 75% less reflection like the new MacBook. Other features are a Core i5 or i7 processors, Nvidia Kepler graphics and a 768GB SSD or 3TB HDD with 32 GB of RAM.
The novelty is the Fusion Drive (SSD + HDD), provided that Mountain Lion and applications are installed on the SSD, and documents on the HDD. If there is not enough space for applications Mountain Lion should ask which applications you use most and put them on the SSD and less used to switch on the HDD. The new iMac has 4 USB 3.0 ports and 3 Thunderbolt port while the basic 21.5-inch model with a 2.7GHz i5, 1TB HDD and 8GB of RAM with a price of $1,299, while the 27-inch model with a 2.9GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD reaches $1,799.
As the event progressed they presented the fourth generation iPad with a new powerful A6X processor that doubles the graphics and processing capabilities. A new signal processor allows a battery life of 10 hours. The facetime camera supports 720p video, while the device is capable of LTE and dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, with a Lightning connector. Black and white will be sold for the same price of $499.
Slowly we come to the climax of the evening - as expected the presentation of the iPad mini was the main event! With a thickness of 7.2 mm and a weight of 0.31 kg; Apple will produce both black and white models with anodized backing as with the iPhone 5. The iPad Mini will have a diagonal of 7.9 inches and the same resolution as the iPad 2, that is 1024x768 pixels. According to Schiller it has a lot more space on the screen compared to the competition (always referred Nexus 7, so obviously it is a thorn in the eye), which allows more comfortable web surfing, while at the same time the device is extremely thin and light. With a Dual-core A5 processor, a FaceTime HD camera and iSight 5MP camera on the back that records 1080p video. LTE wireless and new dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Lightning connector are also here. The battery is estimated to be 10 hours. In the displayed video of the new iPad mini we could see the new lower Smartcover. Smartcover comes in five colors plus product Red. Prices: 16 GB (WiFi) $329, 32 GB model reaches $429, a 64 GB model is $519. Supplement for LTE is $130. Pre-order will be accepted from 26th and Wi-Fi models will be available from the 2nd November!
[Ed – PC Laptops have been using Hybrid drives for a number of years and even Android tablets can be setup to move apps from the main (boot) drive to external storage so Apple is not showing anything new here with their new Macbook Pro. With the iPad Mini the situation is even worse. With a resolution of only 1024x768 it is much lower than even the resolution on the Kindle Fire (which is 1280x800) and the Google Nexus 7. Apple is playing catch up to the companies that have been developing this market for a number of years, yet they showed it off like it was something they designed and built. Unfortunately there are analysts and journalists lined up to help push that lie to the public despite the fact that Samsung, Asus, Motorola, LG, and many more have had 7-inch tablets out for some time and at much lower prices.]
