Ubuntu Edge will see the light of day despite failed campaign

Although the campaign failed to collect $32 million that was supposed to finance the production of Ubuntu Edge phones, mobile phone based on Ubuntu operating system should still be launched next year by Canonical.

Canonical CEO, Jane Silber, told Cnet that the company intends to issue a phone based on Ubuntu early next year. But first device apparently will not offer a complete  experience of "Ubuntu convergence", but it will primarily be just a mobile phone. However, Silber said she believes that the convergence is a way to go in future, and can come in many forms. Although it was obvious shortly after the campaign started that it will not finish good, Silber and founder of Canonical, Mark Shuttleworth, persisted until the end because of the negotiations with some of the partners responsible for the production of hardware, which have become more and more interested in the success of the idea. Therefore, they lowered the price of the device, but that did not help the campaign to succeed.

However, they are not disappointed at Canonical, but point out that their mission of issuing a "smart" mobile phone based on Ubuntu operating system will continue at full throttle. Thanks to the campaign on Indiegogo they managed to attract great interest and 11,000 people who support them, which is a great achievement for a device that has not even been seen yet.
