“As we look to the future of our industry, increasingly the games, the IPs and the content, are going to sit on the cloud, powered by Xbox but accessible through a variety of devices. Rather than our games being device-centric, they will become cloud-centric. This is a general trend you will see more of as we go forward” He said.
“Our games, yes, they will have the best GPU, CPU, immersive experience on Xbox 360, but they will also show up on Windows Phone, on Surface, on Windows 8 and on other compatible devices through SmartGlass” He explained.
Harrison added that they already with the release of Windows 8 the usage of the Xbox brand expanded beyond the living room, to desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile devices, and that in the future, support for such use may only be even better.
[Ed – Microsoft’s move to the cloud will be one that might backfire on them in the end. Although the move is not a foolish one there is still a core group of gamers that do not want to be tied to Microsoft, nVidia or any other cloud service to play the games they like. The reasons are very simple; too many companies like Microsoft have abused the privacy of their subscribers there is no reason to believe that this will not only continue, but actually get worse. We called Microsoft’s push to the cloud back in the early days of the Windows 8 development process and as things stand right now this direction will continue to grow and bring with it a host of security a privacy concerns. I guess, in the end, we will have to wait and see what the market says, but as of right now the consumer is not all that happy to entrust their private information to another company that does not have the best security record…]
