At the top of the new Transformer list we have the Transformer Prime Infinity.  This is the rumored 1920x1200 HD sporting version of the Transformer Prime that started off the whole rumor about Asus replacing the Tegra 3. However, the Prime infinity will have a Tegra 3 SoC under the hood… at least the WiFi model will. Again as we said in our last article; unless Asus wanted to move into the Cellular market they would have no reason to be looking for any other SoC. This is where Qualcomm comes in. Asus is planning a 4G/LTE version of the Infinity that will have a Dual Core Snapdragon S4 Krait. The Tegra 3 that will ship in the Infinity will run a 1.6GHz while the Dual Core Snapdragon will come in at 1.5GHz.

Asus has also announced that they are ending the TF101 (the original Transformer) but are replacing it with a Tegra 3, 1280x800, 16GB and a lower price tag. This is a nice replacement for the original Transformer. Asus has a nice new lineup for the Transformer moving forward although it is interesting that they chose to use a 4G LTE radio which means Sprint users are out in the cold for now. Considering that AT&T, Verizion and T-Mobile all have data caps we are not sure how much traction the new Cellular model will get in the US.

Asus also has to factor in Apple’s upcoming iPad event now earmarked for March 7th. As we have seen in the past Apple sometimes has a way of trumping even the best hardware put out by its competitors.  We now need to wait and see if Tim Cook can pull of the same type of launch that Steve Jobs was able to, it could be that Apple’s awesome PR machine could falter without their leader…
