IDC lowers their expectations for the tablets market

IDC has reduced its forecast for tablet sales for this year due to a lack of new devices that could boost sales growth. According to a new IDC's predictions this year tablet sales will reach 227.4 million units, which is slightly less than previously projected 229.3 million. The main reason for lower sales is the lack of attractive new devices, especially new models of the iPad, which sales have decreased in the second quarter.

IDC also suggests that part of the tablets market was seized by mobile phones with screens larger than 5 inches, and the impact on the market could soon have new devices such as smart watches, like the Samsung Galaxy Gear or expected Apple iWatch. IDC estimates that the average selling price of tablets will fall because of the increasing number of low-cost devices from nameless manufacturers that compete fairly decent with brand name devices.

But despite a weaker market expectations tablets this year will record very strong growth, or 57.7% compared to last year, and for the 2017., IDC estimates that deliveries will grow to approximately 407 million pieces.
