In the IT world there was a time when we all feared the Marco viruses that could be embedded into Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office Products. It was bad enough at one point that I found a single system with over 3,200 counts of an Excel Macro virus (it replicated itself quite nicely). Back then it was common for IT to recommend the use of RTF (Rich Text Format) instead of .DOC for documents and there was even an option inside exchange to force the use of this format even if the end user has Word as their email editor.

Today we find a rumor turning to truth as Micron Technology has admitted it is considering rescue buyout of Elpida Memory. Elpida has been the subject of something of an acquisition hot potato as at least two other companies have considering grabbing them up in the last 18 months. As things stand it looks like Hynix, Naya and Toshiba are also interested in picking up the bankrupt company.

Kingston enjoyed some success with their WiDrive wireless storage device when it was launched and it is easy to see why. Who would not want 32GB of storage space to carry movies, music and other information in instead of clogging up your iPhone or iPad… The problem was that it was only for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This left many people a tad annoyed at Kingston for doing the WiDrive “Apple First”. Well Android users have another reason to be happy today. Along with a leaked version of Flipboard for Android we have news that Kingston is opening up their WiDrive to Google’s Android as well.

In more software news it looks like the eagerly anticipate release of Bioshock Infinite is going to be pushed back a few months. Originally the game was meant to launch in October, but now has been pushed back to late February 2013. This delay has gotten some annoyed while others appear to welcome it, if it means a better game.
