PAEs are companies that own the rights to patents through contracts with inventors or that buy them from others with the sole intent to file law suits against anyone that might be infringing on any patent they currently own. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has finally come out and publicly said what we have been reporting for the last couple of months. Things are changing from the Ballmer way. What that exactly means is yet to be determined though as Nadella is also a proponent of Microsoft’s cloud computing initiative: “We live in a mobile-first and cloud-first world”. In a memo to all Microsoft employees that is posted on Microsoft’s web site Nadella states that he wants Microsoft to “rediscover our soul – our unique core”.

Apple is having a rough time in China again and the situation seems very ironic to many following is (not to mention the whole Karma angle). In 2012 a Chinese company by the name of Zhizhen filed a patent infringement suit against Apple claiming the iThing maker violated their patent on voice related technologies. Zhizhen uses this technology in their Xiao I Robot software and Apples inclusion of Mandarin and Cantonese violates their rights on this technology.
