We have previously reported that the US entertainment industry is trying very hard to push their version of the “law” out to the rest of the world. They have, quite literally, spent billions of dollars lobbying and campaigning to get the laws made in their favor. Now the fact that these laws include exceptionally oppressive measures, remove due process and also make even the most mundane violations into major crimes does not concern them. All they want to do is make sure that they keep control of the content and the money it brings in.
Ok I love the surveys that seem to sprout like magic whenever we get close to anther iPhone launch. It is not just that these are ridiculous precepts of surveying a small sampling and thinking that you are getting an accurate depiction of what a market is interested it is more than they always have some of the most bizarre interpretations that I have ever seen. These are the types of analysis that would have given my statistics instructor a heart attack. I am getting ahead of myself so let me explain in a little more detail.

Apple is not having a good day today. It seems that their attempt to block the flaw in their in-app purchasing system has failed and is still allowing people to grab what they want from inside their apps for free. This also means that someone can push out Malware directly into the walled garden of iOS. It is has got to be annoying for Apple, a company that prides themselves on control. On the other side of the coin Apple just got “caught” giving the MacBook Pro Retina a Gold EPEAT certification despite not being in compliance with the standard.

So Apple is now back on the “green” list. This is an interesting development and one that has been covered in copious detail over multiple sites. We did not dive in when we first heard the news as it was not unexpected to see Apple make this move. We also pretty much called their press release saying they were still greener than anyone else, just in other ways. Apple is getting pretty predictable these days as Tim Cook, the business man, is starting to show his direction over Steve Jobs, the eccentric leader. What is interesting was some of the fall out that we saw and how some have tried to spin it.So Apple is now back on the “green” list. Microsoft just cannot get out of their own way in making some very bad decisions over the past few months. First they have pushed an OS on the public and OEMs that does not make all that much sense based on real consumer feedback. Next they dove headlong into the market with their own unsustainable product in the form of the Surface tablet. Finally they stabbed their partners in the back by offering an update to Windows 8 Professional for $40 including installs of XP, Vista, Windows 7 and even the Release Preview of Windows 8. Microsoft has been pushing the claim that Windows 8 will be compatible with existing hardware as well in an attempt to bring even more people to the new OS. All of this is going to seriously impact partner sales and has caused more than one company to rethink their Windows 8 plans.
