Security omission in Google Cloud Messaging

Kaspersky Lab has announced that they have found a backdoor in the Google Cloud Messaging service that allows developers to directly communicate through their servers with applications installed on Android devices. Backdoor can be used by criminals to send text messages to premium numbers, as well as for theft of data from Android devices.

Big profit decline at Dell

Dell has released a quarterly report that could be the last one published by them as a company listed on the stock exchange. Although revenues in the second quarter of this year were still somewhat higher than expected and amounted to 14.5 billion USD, what is worrying is the decline in earnings by as much as 72%.

Samsung sued for violation of workers’ rights in Brazil

According to Reporter Brazil, an organization that deals with workers' rights in Brazil, authorities in the South American country have filed a lawsuit against the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones, Samsung. The lawsuit was filed by the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and refers to the violation of workers' rights in a Samsung factory which is located in a free trade zone in Manaus.

"Smart" phones surpass the regular ones

According to data from Gartner agency which deals with market analysis, smart phones for the first time surpassed the sale of ordinary "dummy" telephones. Until recently, plain old phones still held top sales, but by the second quarter of this year, smart phones have taken the lead in sales. During the second quarter, sales of smart phones reached 225 million units, which is 46.5% more than in the same quarter last year.

Samsung shows off first SSDs with 3D memory chip

After Samsung  introduced the first "vertical" 3D memory chip earlier this month it did not take long for the first concrete product using this technology to appear. They launched SSDs of 960 and 480 GB, which are designed for enterprise servers and data centers.
