When supercomputers learn slang

There has been quite a lot written about IBM's Watson. The supercomputer that once won on the famous quiz show Jeopardy!. One of the most covered topics is about the algorithms which provide an excellent understanding of conversational language. This nice bit of programming not only understands what’s spoken, but it also sounds human, with sentences that use informal relaxed syntax and vocabulary of everyday life.

Intel Core Y for tablets

Intel plans to launch another line of processors specifically designed for tablets in the first quarter next year. This is a core chip from their Y series based on the Ivy Bridge architecture and in BGA packaging, while in the third quarter of next year Haswell versions of the same series should appear.

Microsoft says that Google is not serious about their business

The General Manager of Microsoft's applications for large companies, Julia White, told the New York Times that Google has not yet proven that it is really serious with their business applications. According to her words, Google is still mainly an advertising company and that 96% of its revenue comes from ads, while only 4% comes from services to business users.

China to control the Internet users even more fiercely

A few days ago the Chinese government issued new regulations that further restrict the freedom of their Internet users. Users in China will now have to give their real names to ISPs and ISPs are obliged to delete forbidden posts and submit their own reports on such activities. In other words, the term "great Chinese firewall" just got even bigger.

Are Smart TVs too Smart for the common user

At CES in Las Vegas a flood of smart televisions showed up, they are special because of their characteristics that combine the TV and a computer inside of the same device. However, the NPD Group conducted a research study of American customers with smart TVs, indicating that people are almost always ignoring the advanced capabilities of their smart TVs. Additionally they found that of all the services and applications they are offered they use only those that allow streaming of video, film and TV.
