Everyone knows that Google is the largest search engine around. Its role as such is so prolific that people no longer 'search' for information on line, they 'google' it. It has become a verb; a regular household name. But just how BIG is Google?
Internet subscribers to AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner, and Verizon have a nasty surprise ahead. Their freedoms online are about to be curbed. Torrent services and other means of downloading or accessing material questionably are being monitored via MarkMonitor. MarkMonitor is a company who has been contracted by the aforementioned Internet Service Providers and interested copy right holders. This conglomeration of big business is known as the Center for Copyright Information. MarkMontior is a firm whose sole purpose is to monitor and report on internet based activity which violates the legal interests of companies such as these.
Like it was not enough that they pretty much ruined the basic version of Android with their apps and add-ons like Walkman, now Sony has announced that some of their Xperia devices won’t even get a Jelly Bean upgrade. This will certainly be more than disappointing for their usersand they can’t do anything but hope that things will change later in 2013. However, until early 2013 no changes will be made. Some of the devices will not be getting the update at all.
Most of us probably remember having our news feeds on Facebook bombarded with status updates of the once prolific game, Farmville. Perhaps, like me, you even played the game for a period of time, enjoying the dull, repetitive “grinding” pace of progress in the game. For a time, it was enjoyable, and very popular, as have several other of Zynga's games. However, despite their original success with Farmville, Zynga's stocks have been constantly slipping for the past several months.
Sony has taken another punch from the world crisis. Today they announced they are planning to lay off around 2,000 workers by the end of the year. They will reduce the workforce in their Tokyo headquarters by 20%, and another 20% will be released from their Home Entertainment and Sound Business Group. This is the part of ongoing process Sony started earlier when they announced they will reduce 6% of their overall workforce.
