Facebook has bought San Francisco startup, SportStream. SportStream created a service that is able analyze the content related to a sport or sports that appears on social networks.

Twitter enters the stock market

Twitter, the popular microblogging service, during Thursday at 11 a.m. by the local time began public trading of its shares. Trade takes place on the New York Stock Exchange, under the symbol TWTR.

See It on US Twitter

Twitter in the United States launched a new option with which you can play TV content by simply clicking on the icon "See It". Option applies only to subscribers of US cable operator Comsat. When a user posts a tweet about TV content, by pressing the "See It" users will access the screen with additional information about the content, with the option to browse it on the web or on TV.

Twitter purchased MoPub

Twitter has taken over the company MoPub, which is known for its own advertising platform for mobile devices. MoPub was founded in 2010, and has its own advertising platform for which they claim that it serves over a billion ads a day to users of applications on Android and iOS.

TweetDeck for even faster tweeting

Application TweetDeck brings an upgrade they intended for users who like to write a large number of tweets on the microblogging service Twitter. Novelty is a special New Tweet panel that will make writing tweets much easier than it was before. There are three icons that allow you to quickly add files to a new tweet, then the option of programming tweets to be sent at a specific time in the future, and icon to quickly send a direct message.

Twitter on their blog publicly announced their intent to use "cookies" in the browser, which will be installed on users' computers, and will be used for their monitoring. Of course, the basic idea is that this service will give them data on the habits of users so they could sell them to companies later, who will then be able to create personalized deals.

Kim Dotcom is back in the news as he is now claiming ownership of Two Factor Authentication. Although the claim might seem ludicrous to many it seems there is a kernel of truth in them as well. What is interesting is the timing of the claim and how he wants to settle things. Unlike many others that hold patents, Dotcom is not looking to make a bunch of lawyers rich trying to assert his claim. Instead he would like Google, Twitter and others that are using his patented idea to help fund his legal defense in the US.

In 2012 there was more than 1 data breach per day and of these 365 plus breaches about 80% managed to get some sort of data. This is a pretty scary number when you think about it, but it actually pales by comparison to the number of personal accounts that are compromised due to poor security, weak passwords, and malware designed to steal passwords. So what do you do to help prevent this? A simple answer is to just not have any online accounts so there is no chance of getting your account compromised. However, we know that this is not really a viable solution so it is fortunate that many companies are finally turning to two-step authentication to help mitigate this type of attack.

Twitter reaches 200 million

Twitter celebrated their sixth anniversary back in March. During the celebration the company announced that they had reached over 140 million active users per month and that there are around 340 million tweets made daily. [This is not a bad achievement, but it does make use wonder about the sheer amount of inane information that gets broadcast around the globe every day; 140 words at a time. –Ed]
