The oldest active digital computer in the world, the British WITCH (Wolverhampton Instrument for Teaching Computing from Harwell), after 39 years idle, has been put into operation once more at the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park. For those who do not know, Bletchley Park was home to Britain's top math and computer brains during the Second World War, including Alan Turing, and a place where the code for the German Enigma was broken. It is also where the first use electromechanical computers happened. Bletchley Park has been converted into a national museum of computing and the latest exhibit is the oldest digital computer ever to function.
The Windows Store has over 20,000 applications as announced by the Win App Update on their twitter feed. Of this number, according to the unofficial data, 87% are free of charge. Speaking at a London Game Conference, a Microsoft marketing manager Andrew Webber revealed another fact - until recently the Windows Store had fewer than 1,500 games (at the time of writing the text 1,615), in the category of racing there are only 13 of them.
The Big Autumn sale begins today on Steam. The whole thing will be closed in about seven days and for now it seems to us that the far more serious sales will come around Christmas and New Year. In fact, Valve has confirmed that the holiday winter sale on Steam can be expected between December 20th and January 4th next year. They asked Tamas Bako, CEO at Artery Studios to include their game Secret of Magic Crystals in both the autumn and winter sales and they even gave the exact dates when will it happen. He was keen to share it on the developer diary, so now we know that the autumn sale will take place from November 21st to 27th, while the winter one will be from December 20th to January 4th.
Razer has introduced a slightly modernized version of the DeathAdder gaming mouse. The Razer DeathAdder was originally introduced in 2006 and is the best-selling gaming mouse in the world. In the latest incarnation Razer is giving it more modern hardware and easily modified ergonomics. Razer continues to improve their DeathAdder year after year, making it every year better by improving hardware specifications while keeping the design that is obviously a favorite with gaming audiences.
Last week there were rumors of a possible postponement of the new iMac. The reason they were supposed to be late was production problems due to the complicated design so the rollout should have started next year. But it looks like Apple has something else in mind and they do not want to have any delays in any case.
