Samsung Requests Judgment As a Matter of Law And Is Looking Into Possible Jury Misconduct

judges-bench

We called this one in the early stages of the trial as Samsung’s legal team began laying the ground for a rolling ambush on Judge Lucy Koh and her favoritism of Apple. Now Samsung has filed a Motion for Judgment as a Matter of Law and a new trial as an alternative. Samsung’s filing is asking for this under Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 50 and 59. Their grounds for this motion are fairly straight forward; they were treated unfairly during the proceedings. The actions of Judge Koh during the trial became so extreme that they were almost comical. Samsung’s team caught on to this early and started pushing Judge Koh to see just how far she would take it.

Facebook suspends facial recognition tool in Europe

Facebook-logo

Looks like an even bigger impact on privacy from Facebook has been stopped, or at least delayed for now in Europe. The facial recognition tool has been suspended due to a recommendation by the Data Protection Commissioner of Ireland, Billy Hawkes, from the last year that Facebook should make some changes first. Even though Hawkes didn’t asked for the tool's total removal it is delayed until October 15 for now. He said that “Facebook is sending a clear signal of its wish to demonstrate its commitment to best practice in data protection compliance.”

Motorola brings S11-FLEX HD Bluetooth headphones

Motorola-logo

Motorola has launched their wireless headphones the S11-FLEX HD, and they indeed look impressive. Not only do they wrap around the neck, but are also ear buds that wrap around the ear. This will surely be very attractive to anyone who likes to do any sort of activities like hiking, mountain biking or jogging. They are not just practical but also have very nice design. The primary colors are blue and silver, with orange circles around the ear buds. The problem with these headphones and with the “wrap around the neck design” is that they are usually only come in one size and if you consider that people have different heads, the obstacle becomes quite obvious. However, that is not the case with this model; they have an adjustable inner strap so they should be good for everybody’s head.

Iran blocks Google and Gmail

Google-iran

In preparation for launching their own internet, the Iranian government has decided to block Google. This move should “protect” Iranian citizens from big bad internet freedom. An official known only by his last name Khoramabadi stated "Google and Gmail will be filtered throughout the country until further notice“. The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) said that this move was provoked by the anti-Islamic movie posted on YouTube that Google refused to remove. As we all know, Muslims don’t take these kinds of things lightly and we saw many newspapers or TV shows that made fun of their religious figures have received death threats shortly after the incident.

SoundHound catching up with Shazam

Soundhound-logo

Don’t you just hate it when you hear a song on the radio or in a mall and you would like to listen to it later but you don’t know what it's called? Well Shazam is the most popular smartphone app that helps you with that, having approximately 250 million people that use it. But they have some decent competition in SoundHound. The SoundHound team decided to respond to Shazam’s bragging about the numbers and revealed that they have over 100 million users that have download their app. Even though Shazam is in the lead by more than 2 times, this is still a respectable number. Shazam is currently on around 30% of the devices, including both Android and iOS.
