Pirate Bay co-founder won his passport back

news pirate-bay-logo

Fredrik Neij won his appeal against the Swedish embassy in Bangkok after they took his passport from him a year ago. He is now free to travel from Laos because the authorities did not present a proper reason for the longer revocation to the Appeals Court. This is just one of the legal cases that the Pirate Bay founders are involved; authorities are really giving them a hard time ever since they were established. The verdict against Neij was made final in the February but he didn’t want to leave it just the way it is so he appealed to the Courts decision.

The Pirate bay back online after 2 days of downtime

news pirate-bay-logo

After almost 2 days The Pirate Bay is back online. There is no reason for concern as the problem was just a broken power distribution unit. The power went off on Monday and it seemed like it was just a standard blackout that happens every few weeks. However, the problem was in a power distribution unit at their data center and considering kind of data the The Pirate Bay has they decided that someone who they know should replace the broken part. They decided it was too risky for them to let a random employee from the hosting facility to fix this issue, so they took their time to do it themselves.

Nokia mocks Apple and the iPhone 5

Nokia-logo

After the Samsung commercial in which they stated that the next great thing is already here, referring to their Galaxy S3 and where they listed the features they have comparing to the much shorter iPhone 5's list, Nokia has released their own commercial. In this commercial they mock the Apple's device. They have also released a video advertisement on YouTube that features the iPhone 5 and their new Lumia 920. The movie does not include any dialog but it's pretty clear what the message is.

Kindle Paperwhite goes beyond expectations

Amazon1

It looks like Amazon was pesimistic about the Paperwhite launch as the preorders have exceeded their expectations by quite a lot.  It doesnt make much sense if you consider that it's predcessor the Kindle eReader was the most sold item from the Kindle family and you can only expect better results if you bring a decent upgrade like the Paperwhite. Amazon started to ship the devices yesterday and if you try to buy it now, the Paperwhite could be yours after a 4 to 6 week delay due to high demand. There is also a limit of two devices per customer.

Steam starts selling software

Steam Logo

After Valve added new categories ranging from creativity to productivity earlier they have officially started to sell non-game software for the Windows platform. After the reviewing process, apps can be purchased and users can choose where they will install them in the latest Steam beta. Valve has all rights to provide certain discounts if they think it will be good for customers and developers. The developers won’t get their standard 70% cut of the sales, but instead revenue will depend on volume, price and other factors. So it is up to Valve to take care of that, and so far no developers have argued about this.
