A while ago we posted an article describing the alleged Xbox 720 “Durango” developer’s console, and the efforts being made by a certain person to sell the console on the Assemblers Game Forum. Last night someone did in fact sell the console to a very fortunate soul on EBay for a final price of $20,100 USD. The question is; how likely is it that this is the actual console and not some opportunistic scam?
Even industrial giants like nintendo cannot escape the side effects of the global financial crisis. After having a rough time in last few quarters, including facing profit loss, Nintendo has decided to push the release of the Wii U game console back to December (2012). Beside the monetary issues many feel that Nintendo is to blame for their older hardware and lack of innovation in video games. At one time Nintendo had some of the most popular games in gaming history such as; Legend of Zelda (the Main character is not Zelda but Link), the Super Mario series and Donkey Kong. Even though everyone was hoping for resurrection of one of the most famous torrent sites, things are looking pretty grim. The three domains on which Demonoid’s web page was available are currently for sale. There was a small hope that Demonoid had reserve servers to continue to work but Demonoid.com, .se, and .ph have been put on the market at Sedo. The responsibility for closing this tracker was taken by IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).
Within the last few years more and more developers have been turning to digital sales as a means to sell their games. In fact, many companies can base nearly their entire success on digital sales. Companies such as Steam and Origin are some of the first that come to mind when consumers think of buying games online. Major companies such as EA and Activision Blizzard are expecting digital sales to exceed physical media sales within the next few years.
One of the most popular torrent clients is uTorrent (used monthly by around 125 million users for downloading) will start to serve adverts within its software in the near future. An announcement stated that ads will be linked with the content of the torrents a user downloads, whether it is a legal or illegal download. uTorrent already makes decent money, between $15-20 million per year, thanks to a toolbar for web browsers that is installed as a part of the install package. However that doesnt seem to be enough for its directors so they hope to make more with the ads they will introduce in the new version
